With this book review, I am introducing a new category - War Strategy. If you play tournament poker, and the thought has not yet crossed your mind that you are at war with an enemy, then get ready for a gigantic epiphany.
The strategies you employ in a poker tournament are no less than the same strategies employed in war. And, for that matter, also are employed in business, politics, and everyday survival.
The good news is that military geniuses have been refining war strategies for thousands of years. Today, we tournament players can, for merely the price of a book, learn from the acknowledged masters about how to think and plan strategically. After all, the word strategy comes from ancient Greek, meaning "leader of the army."
So, it is only fitting that the first book review in the new War Strategy category is of Sun-tzu's The Art of War: New Translation (Fall River Press Edition) by Ralph D. Sawyer. I say fitting, because Sun-tzu's treatise has been around some 2,500 years, and people in all walks of life still derive benefit. Indeed, Sun-tzu's strategies have a profound influence upon all of us, even today, whether we know it or not.
For evidence of this influence, take note below of these few of the many books that adapt Art of War strategies to a wide variety of undertakings in modern day life. The meaning is that many people in the world are actively using Sun-tzu's strategies to gain an edge, directly or indirectly, over you.
Well, don't go and get all paranoid about it, just get the book. And, then get even.
