There are scores of wonderful poker books. Each is important in its own way. Each communicates in its own way. And, each may or may not connect with the reader.
Here is a very short list, two maximum, in a few popular categories, of those books that connected well with me. If you read these recommended books, you will significantly advance your knowledge of hold'em as it is being played today.
By the way, in any category there usually are many more than two books that warrant recommendation. In that case, these few recommendations would be what I consider to be the most important, timely, and relevant of the selections available.
Otherwise, my criteria for a recommendation is simple. The book must:
- Have filled an information void at time of publication,
- Continue to be relevant,
- Display technical expertise,
- Be applicable to poker in general, hold'em in particular, as well as to online play, and
- Be readable, even if difficult.
However, if you only read these recommendations, you will have done yourself a disservice. Every poker book has something worthwhile to contribute, no matter how small may be the contribution.
So, read as many books as you can. Poker is a life long learning experience. There is little to no chance that you will ever know it all.
