I finished reading The Poker Tournament Formula by Arnold Snyder one year ago this month. I wrote this note on the inside front cover - 'The Bible - must reread each year'. There are more of my notes with phrases like 'revolutionary thinking'. Do you get the idea that I liked this book?
In fact, Snyder's book was an epiphany for me. My Sit n Go game improved literally overnight.
Here are a few of Snyder's thoughts:
1) "...there is no 'survival stage' in a fast tournament." Page 21.
2) "...in a fast tournament, your cards are immaterial more often than not." Page 22.
3) "These (fast) tournaments will force you to recognize hands of value based on the combination of your position, your chip stack, and the players you are confronting." Page 35.
4) "Any player who can 'change gears' - that is, move from fast play to slow play and vice-versa, at will - is a dangerous player." Page 35.
5) "Any player who gives no indication of whether he's playing his cards or his guts is a dangerous player." Page 36.
There are over 300 more pages. Each one teeming with ideas and suggestions that will improve your tournament game. As a matter of fact, I need to follow my own advice to myself. So, excuse me while I go reread 'The Bible'.
Update: The Poker Tournament Formula II: Advanced Strategies is also available.
