My first game of Hold'em occured many, many years ago. It was 5-10 limit in an underground game in Dallas, Texas. I played in that game for several years, while Hold'em was still in its infancy. And, before there was a single written word about how to play Hold'em. Years later, my first brick & mortar Hold'em game was also low limit, 4-8.
I do not think my early experiences with Hold'em are much different than those of most players. It seems that today, low limit Hold'em is just as wildly and widely popular as ever. So, I have no hesitation in recommending Winning Low-Limit Hold'em (2nd Edition) by Lee Jones.
Jones' book is an easy read, full of tactical information that is easy to apply. His book helped guide my brick & mortar game. Where for about two years of play, I enjoyed steady winning. A tough accomplishment in that no-fold'em hold'em atmosphere. But, I followed Jone's recommendations very closely.
If you are looking for a really thorough instruction manual for low limit Hold'em, read this book first. I did.
